There are whole communities still in ruins. The cross on the house is interesting. Those marks were left by the search teams who looked in the houses after Katrina. The top section shows the date the house was searched: 16th September in this case, nearly 3 weeks after the storm hit. The left section identifies the search team - this one looks like 1/8, whatever that means. The right section indicates any hazards found - all the teams uses different codes, so I'm not sure what an "E" might mean. The bottom section indicates the number of bodies found - thankfully none in this case. On the other side of the door there's another search cross in green. The house might have been searched again, or that might indicate a search by the ASPCA: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Those guys went round looking for pets and other animals left stranded by relocated owners, and they also marked the buildings.

All images on this website have been shot using either a Canon S40 compact digital camera, or a Canon 20D DLSR. I'm something of a Canon fan. :) Most images have been post processed with Adobe Photoshop and the CurveMeister plugin. I thoroughly recommend CurveMeister, BTW. It's a great piece of software.
