The Big Island has an active volcano called Kilauea which has been errupting constantly since 1984. Most of the time there's a steady flow of lava trickling down the mountainside, so we set off to have a look. You have to do this at night when the red lava glows in the darkness. Fortunately we had a clear starry night with a decent moon. The hotel lent us torches and sticks and this photo shows the conditions we faced.
