The Saturn 1 was NASA's first rocket of the Apollo programme. Note the brackets on the fins - they held it down while the engines built up enough power for a clean lift off. Until those brackets were added the test versions of this rocket tended to fall over. It seems obvious now, but these machines were created right on the learning curve on space flight.
